DIY Lisa Frank Inspired Sandals

Hello and Happy (Almost) Weekend!!
We've just about made it to the end of the week and I've got a super fun project for you this weekend! I made these DIY Lisa Frank inspired sandals and I'm so happy with how they turned out! I remember when I was a kid, I would go school supplies shopping with my parents and get so excited when I found these bright colored patterns on notebooks and folders! While I no longer spend my days in the back to school section of Target, I still love the bold patterns of Lisa Frank and felt it fitting to make a summer DIY!
Full tutorial below:

  • Slide Sandals - I got these from Old Navy but they sell similar ones at Target all year round!
  • Spray Paint - I used the colors below but added in a yellow spray paint
  • Painters Tape - If you don't have painters tape, duct tape will work but may not peel off the sandals as easily!
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors

Step One:
Prep your shoes for spray painting by taping over the sole of the shoe and under the strap. This will ensure only the top part of the strap gets sprayed with the paint.

Step Two:
Using your hot glue gun, draw little horseshoes/cheetah spots on top of the strap. Draw these at different angles to add variety but try to keep them approximately the same size. If you make a mistake, you can peel off the hot glue once it has cooled completely.

Step Three:
Spray paint your sandals with spray paint, using one color at a time. I found it easier to separate the colors by shielding the part I was painting with a paper towel. This helped prevent the colors from blending too much. I recommend using two coats of each color and letting dry for 2 hours before touching the paint.

Step Four:
Make sure your spray paint is completely dry before starting this step!
Remove the tape and discard. Carefully peel off each piece of hot glue by starting at one of the ends of each cheetah spot. Once you finish this step, put on your new sandals and be ready for some jealous stares from fellow Lisa Frank lovers! ;)

I'll be wearing these slides all month long!

XOXO, Karly
