DIY Paint Can Purse!

Happy Hump Day!
I hope you are having a wonderful week so far! We're almost to the weekend and I can't wait to Paint the Town!! ;)
My version of painting the town might be a little different than other's considering my favorite activities are DIY crafts and movie nights... So maybe I'm not painting the whole town but I did put together this DIY Paint Can Purse that you should totally make for your next night on the town!
Read on for this simple tutorial!!

Supplies

  • Plastic Paint Can - Purchased from the Container Store. Link here!
  • Letter Stickers - From Michaels. Color does not matter!
  • Acrylic Paint - I used pink!
  • Spray Paint - White regular spray paint
  • Paint Brush - A smaller foam brush is perfect for this
  • Painters Tape - If you don't have Painters Tape, masking tape is fine, this is just to keep the handle paint free!

Step One: Paint the inside of your paint can! I did two coats but this does not have to be perfect. Decide where on the paint can your letters will be and make sure the section behind the letters is fully covered.

Step Two: Stick your letter stickers to the front of the paint can. Make sure these really stick as you'll be spray painting over them and don't want paint to get under the letters. I used my nail to press down a few of the letters that weren't sticking as well.
Cover the handle with tape and you are ready to paint!

Step Four: Before spray painting, double check that the letters are sticking to the paint can so that no paint gets under them!
Spray paint the outside of the can in a well ventilated area. Try to keep the handle sitting upright while painting but if that doesn't work, let it fall to the back side of the paint can. Repeat this step until the outside is completely covered with white.
I used three coats of spray paint.

Step Five: Let the paint dry for at least two hours. Remove the tape from the handle (you might need to cut it off if it's really sticky).
Carefully remove the sticker letters from the paint can and you're good to go!

I hope you enjoyed this craft as much as I enjoyed making it for you!
This is the perfect size novelty purse for a phone, wallet, and maybe some snacks! ;)

XOXO, Karly
