DIY Cactus Donuts!

Happy Pre-Weekend!!
Is that what people call Thursday or just me? I can't believe it's already MAY which means Cinco de Mayo is upon us!! I made a cute (& super easy) DIY Cactus Breakfast if you're looking for something fun to start your weekend festivities!
Read on for this quick tutorial!!

  • Strawberry Shortcake Rolls - Little Debbie Brand
  • Mini Glazed Donuts - Little Debbie Brand
  • Green Decorating Icing - I found this in the baking aisle at Target!
  • Regular Sprinkles
  • Green Paper - I used regular lime green paper but card stock would be even better!
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Toothpicks (not pictured) - You will need 2 toothpicks per shortcake
  • Clear Tape (not pictured)
  • Knife or Spatula - To spread the icing!!

Step One: Start making the bigger cacti by squeezes some green icing on a strawberry shortcake roll. Spread with your knife or spatula until the top is completely covered with icing. Repeat this step to make as many as you'd like and then set aside.

Step Two: Start making the little cacti by making a loop pattern on the mini glazed donuts. Make sure the round tip of the icing is on for this step!
Next, separate out sprinkles for the flowers. I used pink and orange! Make little flower shapes using 5 sprinkles for each. If you have trouble moving the sprinkles around in the icing, use a toothpick to help!

Step Three: Draw and cut out little cactus arms! These do not have to be perfect. You will want two paper arms for each strawberry roll and make each arm facing the opposite way so both face up when put on the cactus.

Step Four: Tape a toothpick to the bottom side of each cactus arm and push into the each side of the larger cacti!

Now you are all set to start your Cinco de Mayo morning off right!!
Anyone throwing a party/Can I come?!

XOXO, Karly
