DIY Polka Dot Sunglasses

Hello DIY Darlings!!
I hope everyone had a safe and fun Independence Day!!

If you haven't noticed by now, I am the person who buys all of the color-coordinated holiday items like ribbon, glow sticks and anything in the Target dollar section. Unfortunately for me, I am not the only one who does this and my store was all out of patriotic sunglasses by the time I went to buy mine!
As a lover of DIY projects, I decided to make my own!
Follow my tutorial below to see how to craft your own pair!

  • White Sunglasses - They sell these at Michaels!!
  • Nail Polish - I chose a red and a darker blue color
  • Sponge
  • Hole Punch
  • Address Labels - Or some type of sticky paper!
  • Pencil
  • Scissors

Step One: Use a sponge that you don't want to reuse as you will be dipping it into nail polish! Cut your sponge into two (or more if you are using several different colors) hand-held sponges.
Carefully pop out the lenses of your sunglasses.
*If you aren't able to remove the lenses, use removable tape to cover the lenses while you are crafting.

Step Two: Pour one color of nail polish onto your plate. Dip your sponge into the polish and dab onto your sunglasses. Repeat with second color using your second sponge.
I created stripes and used red on the right side of the frames and on the bottom of the left side, and blue on the top left.
Set aside the sponges as you will use them again.

Step Three: Trace the sides of your glasses onto the back of the address labels. Cut out the shape and hole punch your polka dots into the paper. Stick the sticky side onto the side of the sunglasses. Repeat with other side.

Step Four: Pour nail polish of each color onto your plate. Dip one sponge into the corresponding color nail polish and carefully cover the polka dots. Repeat with second color.
Wait 10 minutes before removing the address label paper!

I hope you had fun creating a colorful pair of polka dot sunglasses! Check back all summer for more brightly colored DIY projects!!

XOXO, Karly
